Founded in 1997 on a rural farm in the Devonshire countryside, Fortis began as a small business producing tyre and car seat covers. Today, it stands as a respected outdoor clothing manufacturer, known worldwide for its durable, high-quality garments made with care, purpose, and innovation. Each piece is crafted using Ripstop Polycotton Fabric developed in-house — a material trusted by outdoor enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Fortis has remained true to its roots. Now led by second-generation director Oliver Massy-Birch, the company has evolved into a globally recognised brand, exporting to countries such as Japan, Germany, and Sweden — while remaining firmly committed to its founding values: British-made quality, sustainability, and exceptional customer care.

What makes Fortis especially unique is its commitment to slow fashion. Unlike many fast-fashion brands, Fortis manufactures made-to-order garments, reducing waste and excess inventory. Their packaging is biodegradable and their insulation materials are created from 90% recycled fibres. They even offer a repair service to help customers extend the life of their clothing, with some items returning for reproofing over 20 years after purchase!

Fortis doesn’t just sell outdoor clothing — it supports a movement towards long-lasting, environmentally responsible fashion. With deep ties to its local community and a growing international presence, Fortis continues to set a high standard in sustainable British manufacturing.
